Republican Walker Stapleton Increases Fundraising Lead Over
Democrat Incumbent in State Treasurer’s Race

Strong Support for Pro-Taxpayer Message

DENVER— Continuing to out-raise the Democrat incumbent State Treasurer, Republican businessman Walker Stapleton announced today that he has now raised a total of $244,375 for his campaign. Stapleton raised an additional $106,164 in his second quarter of fundraising, building on his record-setting first quarter in which he raised $138,211.

Stapleton becomes the first candidate for Colorado State Treasurer ever to raise more than $100,000 in each of two consecutive fundraising quarters, and the results leave the Stapleton campaign with more than $215,000 cash on hand. By contrast, the Democrat incumbent State Treasurer has raised only $204,537 to date and reports having only $141,051 on hand.

Stapleton credits his strong and growing support to his clear, pro-taxpayer message, which contrasts starkly with the Democrat incumbent’s record. The list of Colorado business leaders supporting Stapleton continues to grow and now includes, among many others: Philip Anschutz, Bill Barrett, Pete Coors, Joe Ellis, John Elway, Mike Fries, Charlie Gallagher, Fred Hamilton, Marc Holtzman, Chris Hunt, Bill Hybl, Jake Jabs, Holly Arnold-Kinney, Edie Marks, Dan Ritchie, Dick Robinson, John Sie, Jack Vickers and Jim Wallace.

“Coloradans want a Treasurer who has experience in the business world and who will be a watchdog for the taxpayers,” Stapleton said. “The Democrat incumbent lacks the business background and has pushed all manner of backdoor tax hikes, huge fee increases and attacks on taxpayer rights. Coloradans know that’s not a recipe for economic recovery.”

The Stapleton for Colorado finance team is co-chaired by business leaders Greg Maffei, CEO of Liberty Media Group, and J. Landis (Lanny) Martin, founder of Platte River Ventures. The campaign’s treasurer is Joe Smith, a partner in the law firm of Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP. Smith called the campaign’s fundraising success to date “strong evidence that Walker Stapleton is the only Republican candidate who can raise the resources necessary to win this race.”
